I went to a cafe alone today for lunch. My friend was busy, but I was hungry. So I went to my usual place - Cafe Hons near my office. I love its Pink Sauce Pasta, Greek Salad and Cappuccino.
When I entered, a few chairs were occupied. On one table, a long-haired handsome guy was sipping cold coffee and clicking pictures. On another, a couple was talking so softly, as if sharing some secret.
I sat at our favourite spot.
And after a long time, I noticed something strange- I was alone, but more importantly, I was not looking at my phone. I decided not to touch my mobile during lunch.
The urge to check notifications.
The urge to open social media.
The urge to watch that reel a friend had sent in the morning.
The urge to make that small-talk call.
The urge to click a photo.
O man, it was difficult. Really difficult.
That’s when I realised how deeply caught I am in this small device.
But I didn’t check my phone for the entire lunch.
And slowly, I started noticing things I had never noticed before in that cafe, at our favourite place.
That tiny money plant sitting in the corner.
That quotation on the wall.
That cupboard where all the sauces were kept.
That lamp which looked different from the others.
That smile from the waiter.
And the gentle way he served the food.
The place was really beautiful. Really, really beautiful.
Maybe the world was always this beautiful.
Maybe we just stopped looking.
